Rightway Driver Training FAQS - Better Training - Safer Driving

Q: Getting Started

A: Are you ready to start learning to  drive? Before you can start driving lessons you must hold a provisional licence, be aged 17 or over and be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres or 20 metres for the new style number plates. You can apply for your provisional licence here.

Q: My First Lesson And What Should I Bring With Me?.
A: You will need to bring your driving licence and paper counterpart if you have the old style licence as well as your national insurance number. Comfortable sensible footwear and casual clothing. Prescription glasses or contact lenses if you wear them and of course payment, you can pay via debit/credit card or cash.

Q: How Many Driving Lessons Will I Need?
A: Everyone learns at different rates so it’s very difficult to answer this question, as a guide the average learner has an average of 67 hours behind the wheel; made up of 45 hours with an Approved Driving Instructor, and 22 hours of private lessons with a family member or good friend, according to The  Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Whilst cost is a huge factor in learning to drive, it is essential you never forget that you are learning a life skill – and there are no realistic short cuts or bargains available when becoming a safe driver for life.

Q: So How Will I Know I Am Ready For My Practical Test?
Rightway Driver Training will offer frequent feedback and your progress will be discussed during every lesson. Mock practical tests will be performed that will highlight any weaknesses, however as a  basic rule, once you are driving to a consistently high standard without intervention or instruction from myself, this would be a good indicator of your readiness for your practical test.

Q: How Much Do The Tests Cost And What Do I Need To Take With Me?
A: Your theory test currently costs £23, For most people, you will only need to take your UK photocard driving licence. If you have an old-style paper licence you will need to bring your signed driving licence along with a valid passport. Your practical test currently cost £62 weekdays and £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You will need to take with your driving licence and theory test pass certificate and a car (normally you will use your driving instructors car). Please note that the cost of your test is separate from the driving instructors test charge for lessons prior to your test, and for supplying test vehicle.

Q. How will you use my photo of me posing with my pass certificate?
A: Some instructors use you as their own billboard with the photo taken on passing your test on test day, proudly holding up your test certificate or even the instructors own company logo on some occasion. I do not use you in this manner, if you agree to a picture of the moment after passing your driving test, then the picture is normally taken using your phone or camera for you, your memories. I will not share anyone’s picture on facebook or any other social media platform or website.
